High Court overrules the second extension of Ali Waheed

High Court has overruled the Criminal Court’s decision to extend the remand period of the MDP Chairperson Ali Waheed for a second time.

High Court order today said that the remand period of Ali Waheed was extended without enough evidence to reason being kept in Police custody.

While the High Court has overruled it today, Police have released the MDP Chairperson on Sunday.

Police have sent the case pending against Ali Waheed, for encouraging protestors at the rally on 1 May to confront the security forces encouraging violence, to the PG’s Office for prosecution.

PG’s Office said that the case is being researched.

Aside from the MDP Chairperson, the extending of the remand period of the President of the Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Imran Abdulla has also been appealed at the High Court. The hearing of the case has been scheduled to 10:45 a.m. at the High Court.
