Ninety Five percent of juvenile offenders reported to the Juvenile Justice Unit between April and June this year do not attend school, according to a report released by the Unit this week.
According to the report 22 cases were reported to the unit from April to June. Most of them are boys and 95 percent had dropped out of school at the eighth or ninth.
According to the report shared by the Home ministry with the media, the rate of offending is more in the dropout circle and 55 percent of the children are from connected families. The report also notes that most of the offenders do not live with their parents.
Most common offenses by juveniles include violent assault, drug abuse and theft. The majority of the cases were from the the capital Male’.
