Ten companies shortlisted for bridge between Male

Housing Ministry has requested for proposals from ten companies for the construction of the bridge between Male’ and Hulhumale’.

Housing Minister Dr Mohamed Muiz said that the bidding was opened at the end of last year, and that eighteen companies showed interest. The best ten have now been shortlisted, and they have been requested to propose designs:

“Eighteen companies showed interest. Now the evaluation process is complete and ten companies have been shortlisted. They have been requested to propose designs of the bridge.”

Muiz said that they have been given a deadline of three months to propose designs.

He also that even though the former government had announced work to construct a bridge, there was no record of any money being assigned to this project. However as it has created hope for people living near Male’, the current government will continue with the project.

“No budget had been assigned for the bridge. We are working hard to obtain this money. We are getting signals from different governments that they are interested in cooperating with this project. We hope to arrive at a solution before it’s time to tender,” Muiz said.

Former government had indicated that an amount between $70m to $100m will be required to construct the bridge.
