MDP to be responsible for the large protest rally to be held on June 12

The opposition has announced that large protest rally would be held on June 12 where MDP would be taking responsibility for.

Speaking at a press conference held today at the office of Adhaalath Party, the Leader of the MDP Parliamentary Group, Ibrahim Mohamed Soalih (Ibu) said that different activities would take place starting today which are related to the big rally. He said that they would be visiting the atolls and host campaigns related to the rally.

“We will do all this peacefully, following the law.” Ibu said.

Ibu said that the responsibility for the protest on 27 February was taken by Jumhooree Party and Adhaalath Party took responsibility for the protest on 1 May.

Speaking at the press conference today, the former Human Rights Ambassador of the President’s Office, Ahmed Ibrahim Didi (Sandhaan Ahanmaidhee) said that there is no permit required for the protest on 12 June and the people have the right to rally whenever they want.

The state has pressed charges against protestors in previous rallies.

The pickup driver who drove through the lines of the security forces has been charged with terrorism by the state.

The MP for the Kendhoo constituents and lawyer, Ali Hussain said that those charges were a violation of the law.

He said that the driver cannot be charged with terrorism but he can be charged for disobeying the police.
