President’s Office has announced that the government is ready to hold discussions with opposition parties, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Jumhooree Party (JP), and Adhaalath Party (AP), for three reasons.
President’s Spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali said that the first reason is to find legal solutions to the ongoing political unrest.
The second reason is to consolidate democracy and strengthen the constitutional and judicial systems, and the third is to ensure development and progress for the country, said Muaz.
Muaz said that letters informing this have been sent out by the President’s Office today, and that seven ministers have been appointed to hold separate discussions with the three parties.
Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr Mohamed Shainee, and Minister at the President’s Office Abdulla Ameen have been appointed to hold discussions with MDP, and Minister of Tourism Ahmed Adeeb, Minister at the President’s Office Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr Mohamed Muizzu, and Minister of Environment and Energy Thorig Ibrahim have been appointed to hold discussions with JP and AP, said Muaz.
