Police have started checking flights for Maldivians leaving the country to take part in the war in Syria.
Sources say that the Police have started checking flights of two airlines: Turkish Airlines and FlyDubai Airlines. It has been a few days since the Police have started questioning and checking Maldivians who are flying through those two airlines.
Police have been asking about the purpose of travel and checking for a return ticket from the Maldivians who are travelling on Turkish Airlines and FyDubai airlines.
Sources say that Police asks if they are leaving with consent of their families and call family members to confirm.
While the Police have started checking flights leaving the country for Maldivians who are trying to take part in foreign wars, Commissioner of Police, Hussain Waheed has said that Maldivians leaving the country to take part in foreign wars is a major concern. And if information about those who are leaving the country is received, steps have to be taken immediately after going through Police Intelligence.
Commissioner said that an estimate of more than 50 people have left the country to take part in foreign wars.
