President reiterates request to discuss issues with government

President Abdulla Yameen has called on opposition groups again, to engage in discussions with the government.

The President’s Spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali told Sun Online today, that the purpose of the President repeating his request was to ensure peace and order in the country.

He said that before opposition parties took to the streets in protests, President Yameen met with party leaders including Sheikh Imran Abdulla.

The President will do everything possible within the boundaries of the law to solve disputes, said Muaz.

He further said that the President has nominated Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer and Minister of Tourism Ahmed Adeeb to hold discussions with opposition parties, and the purpose of these efforts was to establish an environment where the government can work for the benefit of the people.

Muaz added that it is unclear at this stage if the discussions will be led by ministers or the President himself.
