Advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, has paid a courtesy call on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
At the meeting held yesterday, discussions were focused on maintaining good relations between the Maldives and Pakistan, and continuing support and cooperation in international forums.
The President and the Advisor to the Pakistani Prime Minister also discussed strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries through the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
President Yameen highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation between Maldives and Pakistan in the areas of defence, education, and health. He expressed confidence that the good relations between the two countries would further flourish in the future.
Advisor to the Pakistani Prime Minister, Sartaj Aziz, noted the importance of establishing good diplomatic relations with neighbouring countries, and maintaining peace in the region. He also assured President Yameen of Pakistan’s continuous support to the Maldives in all areas.
He also briefed President Yameen on the improvements in Pakistan’s economy, and expressed hopes of increasing its growth rate.
President Yameen and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim arrived in Pakistan on a two-day state visit yesterday.
President’s Office has said that President Yameen will call on President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain, and meet with Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Shareef.
The two countries will, during the President's visit, enter bilateral agreements covering sports, healthcare, education, and combating narcotic drugs, said the President’s Office.
