Dunya: Government

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon has said that she will face questions regarding former President Mohamed Nasheed’s case at the second review of the Maldives by the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism today, and that she will respond by saying that the government’s stand on this issue will not change.

The second review of the Maldives by the UPR mechanism will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Malé time.

She said that the government’s stand on this issue is very clear, which is that it will not interfere with or influence a separate and independent judicial system.

She said that other issues that will be raised at the meeting include religious freedom and the death penalty.

Dunya said that neither the government nor the people of the Maldives want to allow religious freedom in the Maldives.
