Remand extension for Sobah to be appealed

Abdulla Haseen, lawyer representing Jumhooree Party (JP) member Sobah Rasheed, has said that the extension of the remand period by Criminal Court for Sobah will be appealed.

The court remanded Sobah in custody for 15 additional days yesterday.

Sobah was arrested at 10:50 p.m. on Friday, at Artificial Beach.

Sources say he was arrested on suspicion of inciting violence during the protest.

Other political figures arrested on Friday include President of Adhaalath Party Imran Abdulla, Deputy Leader of JP Ameen Ibrahim, and Chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Ali Waheed.

Court’s decisions to extend their remand periods have also been appealed.
