Police have said that they have received information that acts of vandalism and fires are being planned for the protested demonstrations being organized by political oppositions on 1 May.
Informing the media today about the Police preparation for the joint opposition political demonstration on Friday, Chief Superintendent of Police, Abdulla Navaaz said that reliable sources have informed the Police that a group among the protestors plan to vandalize some government offices, industrial sites, homes of officials of the media and government and private properties of independent citizens. And information about plans to set fires at some places and if enough people are gathered at the demonstration, to commit acts that could be life threatening to some people have been received by the Police.
“Reliable sources have informed the Police about plans to set fires at some places and commit acts that could be life threatening to some people if enough people gather at the protest.” Superintendent Navaaz said.
The Superintendent said that while fires are being planned for the protest on Friday, the damages in the recent fire has still not been compensated.
He said that if acts of vandalism take place in the protest, the police would take action within the law and would not allow such a thing.
Superintendent Navaaz said that the peace is disrupted and vandalizing starts, the Police would face the protestors with zero tolerance.
“Police would confront the vandalism and disruption of peace due to political reasons with zero tolerance.” Superintendent Navaaz said.
The Superintendent also said that some protestors talk with support to crime and the Police have received information about protestors using tools used to commit crimes. He said that plumb bobs, metal rods and chili water among other things have been prepared to attack the Police according to information received.
