The seven nominations by the President to the Public Service Media Governing Board have been approved by the Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions.
At the ongoing meeting, Thulusdhoo MP Mohamed Waheed proposed to approve the seven members without holding interviews, which was passed with six votes in favour. Eight MPs were present at the meeting, and the proposition was voted against by opposition MP Rozaina Adam.
The seven individuals nominated to the board by President Abdulla Yameen are Ibrahim Umar Manik, Ibrahim Khaleel, Mohamed Ikram Abdul Latheef, Mahmood Ali, Aminath Shayan Shahid, Ibrahim Hilmy, and Mohamed Shagil.
The Public Service Media Bill was ratified by President Yameen yesterday.
The new law states that efforts must begin within 30 days of it coming into effect, to constitute the Public Service Media Governing Board and appoint senior members to the board.
