Agreement signed to install LED street lights in Mal

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Ministry of Environment and Energy and Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure, to replace some existing street lights with LED street lights in Malé.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony at Environment Ministry today, by Minister of Environment and Energy Thorig Ibrahim and Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

Speaking at the ceremony Thorig said that under the agreement signed today, 100 street lights will be mounted at the harbour area and 40 street lights - donated by the government of Germany - at the Republic Square in Malé.

Thorig said that 280,000 LED street lights were installed in various regions across the country under the Fehi Ali program last year.

He also said that with the introduction of energy-efficient lights, electricity costs are expected to go down by 68 percent.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Muizzu said that the project to replace the street lights is expected be completed within 15 days.
