Adeeb: Gayoom has shown a perfect example of democracy

Minister of Tourism Ahmed Adeeb has said that the fact that former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s son Ahmed Faris Maumoon had to go through the process of a Primary to get the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) ticket for the Dhiggaru By-election, is a perfect example of democracy on Gayoom’s part.

Adeeb made this remark while speaking at an event at PPM Office, for the official presentation of the PPM ticket to Faris.

He said that this level of democracy is neither seen in any other local political party, nor shown by any other Maldivian leader.

PPM will work together in Faris’ campaign to win Dhiggaru seat, said Adeeb.

Speaking at the ceremony, Faris said that after today’s events and the commitment from the party to his campaign, he was confident of winning the election.

He said that he will submit his candidacy to the Elections Commission today.
