MDP ticket for Dhiggaru By-election goes to Ahmed Raazee

Ahmed Raazee, Kaanige, Meemu Maduvvari, has received the Maldivian Democratic Party ticket for the Dhiggaru By-election.

Initially, two individuals announced they were running for the MDP ticket for this election, and Raazee won the ticket after Ibrahim Jihad withdrew his candidacy.

MDP’s Election Committee said that the ticket will be officially presented to Raazee by the party leadership.

The Primary of the ruling party, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), for Dhiggaru By-election was won by Ahmed Faris Maumoon on Friday.

The parliament seat for Dhiggaru constituency became vacant when former MP Ahmed Nazim was found guilty of misappropriation of public funds and sentenced to life in prison.

The deadline for submitting candidacies for the election, set for 6 June 2015, is Tuesday.
