Ministerial posts were proposed, but I don

Recently ousted Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) President Dr Ibrahim Didi has said today that he had been proposed ministerial posts by the current government on several occasions, but he has proved that what he is after is not high posts.

Speaking to Sun Online after a meeting with President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik and Vice President Mohamed Waheeddeen (Deen) at the President’s Office, Didi said that his interest lies not with joining the new government, but with working for the protection, security and peace of the country:

“I have proved that I have never been interested in holding high posts. It’s true that I have been proposed ministerial posts on several occasions. My interest does not lie with holding high posts. My interest lies with the security and protection of our country.”

Didi did not reply when asked if he was proposed a ministerial post at today’s meeting.

Didi said that he met with President Waheed in his capacity as an individual, and not in his capacity as MDP President. He noted that MDP leadership is currently in a state of ‘legal emptiness’.

Didi said that three issues were discussed in today’s meeting, which were restoring peace in the country, confirming the impartiality of the Inquiry Commission, and the obstacles faced in continuing with all-party-talks.
