Local arrested for kidnapping two foreigners

Two foreigners that were taken hostage have been rescued from a house in Male’ and a man suspected of the kidnapping has been arrested.

Police said that two Bangladeshi men of 23 and 24 years of age were taken hostage around 6 p.m. yesterday. The crime was reported to the Police around 1:40 a.m. and after a special operation by the police, the two men were rescued around 2:45 a.m.

A 34-year-old Maldivian man was arrested at the scene of the crime.

Police said that they entered the house where they were being kept with the use of force.

Sources say that the house where the hostages were kept was an inhabited house and they were kept on the second floor. And Police forced the door to get into the house.

Police said that when they rescued the hostages, they showed signs of physical abuse but sustained no serious injuries.

Police said that a large amount of money was taken from the two hostages after they were kidnapped. And the police suspect a foreigner and other locals to be involved in the kidnapping and the Police are currently looking for them.
