Male’ City Council has said that six parties have presented proposals showing interest to operate the fish market.
Galolhu Dhekunu member of City Council Ismail Sujau said that the bids will be opened this afternoon:
“Our hope is to hand over operation of the fish market to a group, and for them to begin services before Ramadan.”
He said that handing over the fish market to a private company would improve provision of ice, café and restaurant services at the market.
“This will result in ice being available to those who need it, improvement in hygiene standards and food services,” Sujau said.
City Council said that the group which takes over the fish market will be responsible for its renovation and improvement of services provided to fishermen and fishmongers.
