Exports increase by 90 percent in March

Exports have increased by 90 percent in March 2015, compared to March 2014.

According to “Monthly Statistics – March 2015” published by Maldives Customs Service, goods worth MVR 212.5 million were exported in March 2015, while the value of goods exported in the corresponding period of 2014 was MVR 111.7 million.

The increase in exports is attributed to a significant hike in the export of yellow-fin tuna.

Imports, meanwhile, wend down by 2 percent. Goods worth MVR 2,560.8 million were imported in March 2015, while the value of goods imported in the corresponding period of 2014 was MVR 2,599.9 million.

Notable categories and values of imports include Food items, MVR 552.5 million; Tobacco, alcohol and pork, MVR 95.9 million; and Vehicles and vehicle spare parts, MVR 91.6 million.
