Shafeeu: Confidence in national airline behind tourism expansion

Chairman of Island Aviation Services Limited Ahmed Shafeeu has said that the benefits of the tourism industry are enjoyed by people across Maldives today, because of the tourism industry’s confidence in the national airline, Maldivian.

Shafeeu made this remark in a statement, issued on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Island Aviation.

He said that Maldivian’s services have helped expansion of businesses in the islands, and that the airline is recognised by the public as one that facilitates economic development.

The local airline industry has seen development and gained public confidence over the past 15 years, he said.

Shafeeu further said that Maldivian has changed people’s mindset and made travel by air accessible to everyone, and not just the privileged.

Maldivian began operating international flights in 2008. Starting with India, it now operates scheduled flights to Bangladesh, China, and Thailand.

Over 900 tourists arrive in the Maldives per week on Maldivian flights.
