Minister Saeed: Food prices would go down with the development of the trade harbor and INIA

Economic Minister, Mohamed Saeed has said that the food prices in the Maldives would go down with the government project of developing of the trade harbor and Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA).

Speaking as the chief guest at the ceremony celebrating the World Health Day at Hotel Jen, Minister Saeed said that when the trade harbor is complete, processing and storing food supplies would be possible there. And the airport is also being developed with those facilities.

“…We definitely do not have harbors of that level. And our competitors do not have such harbors yet. So when a harbor like this is made, a few things happen when more than 90 percent of consumable food supplies are imported, processed and stored. One of those things is the food prices going down.” Minister said.

Aside from the low prices, the food supplies would be healthy as well.

Minister Saeed said that the newly developed harbor would be equipped with and ISO standard processing plant and storing facilities and storing standards. And one of the works by the government’s SEZ board is the work for the harbor project.

“One of the non-stop works by the Special Economic Zone Board right now is port development project initiated by President Yamin.
