Hussain Rasheed: We have to be aware consuming the imported foods

State Minister of the Health Ministry, Hussain Rasheed has said that since the imported foods are not cared for in the best way, it is being harmful and we have to be aware while importing and consuming imported foods.

Speaking at the information session held at the Artificial Beach yesterday to celebrate the World Health Day, the Minister said that merchants have to be careful while selling such goods and the buyers has to be aware as well.

“A lot of things are imported into the country. Damages are being inflicted since we are overlooking the storing after the foods are cleared from the port. These are things we have to be aware of. Especially the merchants while selling it. And we who buy it.” Minister said.

Minister Rasheed said that while the Maldives is importing a lot of goods, a lot of it is being produced in the country as well. With the demand for such products, in the scenario where chemicals are being used, specific rate for them has to be decided.

While yesterday’s event was aimed for children, special games for children were included in the evening with a special item by Imadudhin School.

The information session went on with 12 stalls including information about storing and protecting food and other information about safe consumption of food.

This year’s slogan for the World Health Day is, “'from farm to plate, make food safe.”
