Gayoom: Former MP Nazim

Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said that the services of former Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim should be recognised by the ruling party and the parliament.

Gayoom made this remark while speaking at a rally on Thursday, 09 April 2015, organised by the ruling coalition, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA).

“He served the parliament. Our party, PPM, also received his services, and to the best of my knowledge, he provided valuable services during the Presidential Election. This must be recognised,” said Gayoom.

While noting that court verdicts must be obeyed by everyone, Gayoom said that Nazim may have been disqualified as a Member of Parliament following a court verdict, but his valuable services to the country must be acknowledged by everyone.

Nazim was found guilty of fraud and sentenced to lifetime imprisonment (25 years) by Supreme Court on 6 April 2015.

Gayoom also said that PPM must win the Dhiggaru by-election, which was announced and scheduled for 13 June 2015 yesterday by the Elections Commission.
