Area off south Hulhul

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that 200 meters have been closed off in the sea from the southern end of Hulhulé, for the purpose of conducting surveys under the design phase of the Malé-Hulhulé bridge project.

He said that the area is closed for security reasons while efforts are ongoing to collect tide gauge data, and that buoys have been placed to identify the closed area.

The work, which began yesterday, is expected to be completed within two days.

Equipment have also been placed at the Coast Guard docking areas in Malé and Hulhumalé, to collect data on waves and current, Dr Muizzu said.

He further said that efforts ongoing to conduct a topographic survey of the southern side of Hulhulé, which is expected to be completed in ten days.

“The [bridge design survey] work is ongoing at a fast pace – faster than the normal pace for such work - in collaboration with the Chinese government,” he said.

The construction of the bridge between Malé and Hulhulé is scheduled to begin in December 2015.
