Adhaalath Party (AP) has requested Elections Commission to review the decision to impose a fine on the party in relation to recent protests.
President of Adhaalath Party Imran Abdulla told reporters outside Elections Commission after a meeting with commission members today, that the request is likely to be heeded by Elections Commission.
He said that during the meeting, he urged the commission, as an oversight body for political parties, to act with compassion and impartiality.
The fine imposed on AP was not based on any existing policy, he said.
Elections Commission fined AP MVR 33,000 on 26 March 2015 for violating the Freedom of Peaceful Assembly Act, by encouraging violence, attacking police officers, and damaging public property during protests.
