Construction of the bridge starting in December

Housing Ministry has said that the construction of the bridge between Male’ and Hulhumale’ would start in December of this year.

Responding to a question by Sun Media at the press conference at the Housing Ministry, the Minister of Housing, Dr. Mohamed Muiz said that the construction of the bridge would be starting in December and the project would be completed in two years.

“Both Chinese and the Maldivian government believes that the construction can begin in December.” Muiz said.

Minister Muiz said that the design of the bridge is ongoing and be completed by the end of June. He said that while the design is being made, 50 experts from China would come to Maldives and take part in the survey in the next few days.

While experts are researching in 10 areas, the ocean currents are being surveyed today between, Male’ and Funadhoo, Funadhoo and Hulhule’ and Hulhule’ and Male’.

A Chinese team has conducted bridge surveys previously in Maldives. But that survey was to ensure if it was feasible to build a bridge.
