The former Bangladeshi Ambassador to Maldives, Selina Mohsin has said that she was threaten when she started working for labor rights during her term as the emissary to the Maldives.
In her article in the Dhaka Tribune, she said that the threats were from employers. Her article was related to the murder of the Shaheen Mia and the other Bangladeshi citizen found dead in Thoddoo.
She wrote that the passports of the Bangladeshi workers are with their employers. And she worked hard to return their passports to them and succeeded in doing so for some people.
“After concerted efforts and with the assistance of former President Nasheed, some passports were recouped and salaries paid. The employers threatened the writer. She, a high commissioner and dean of the diplomatic corps, had to be given police protection for requesting justice for innocent labourers.” She wrote.
Selina Mohsin’s article noted the injustices to the Bangladeshi laboureres in Maldives. Described as, "Living in inhuman, cramped quarters without their passports and funds they are left to fend for themselves."
