President Yameen congratulates President-elect of Nigeria

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a congratulatory message to President-elect of Nigeria, Major General (Rtd.) Muhammadu Buhari, following his victory in Nigeria’s presidential elections.

According to the President’s Office, the President’s message reads as follows:

“On behalf of the people and the Government of Maldives, it gives me great pleasure to extend to you sincere congratulations and best wishes on your victory in Nigeria’s presidential elections.

“I wish you fortitude in discharging the important duties of your position. I am confident that, under your leadership, Nigeria will achieve new heights of progress and prosperity. While expressing the hope that the friendly relations existing between our two countries will be further strengthened in the years to come, allow me also to convey to you my good wishes for your health and well-being.”

Buhari defeated incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan in the presidential elections, and will assume office on 29 May 2015.
