A contract has been signed between Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Limited (MTCC), for undertaking the necessary preparations prior to the construction of a new passenger terminal at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA).
The main preparation would be the relocation of buildings and facilities, to allow the construction of the new terminal.
According to the agreement signed today (Monday, 30 March 2015) at Hulhulé Island Hotel, the work should begin within two months and should be completed within five months.
Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed said earlier that the INIA development project will be completed by December 2017.
The $700-million project will see the construction of a new runway, and the expansion of the airport to facilitate the annual arrival of five million tourists.
