Police have warned that protests will be broken up if they continue past midnight.
In a press release issued today regarding the ongoing series of protests in Malé, police said that the use of sound systems will not be allowed after 11:00 p.m., and protests will be broken up after midnight.
Police noted that complaints have been received from businesses and members of the public, who have requested to take action to protect their rights and freedoms.
Action will be taken to protect the rights of the public as per Article 41 (g) of the Freedom of Peaceful Assembly Act, said police.
Police urged protesters to keep their actions peaceful and within the boundaries of the law, and assured that due cooperation and protection will be provided during such demonstrations.
