Faaragema dog squad to arrive tonight

The police dog squad, Faaragema, acquired by the government in a move towards crime prevention, will arrive in the Maldives tonight.

A police spokesperson said that five dogs, out of the squad of 16, will arrive tonight; and all the dogs will arrive before 27 March.

28 police officers have been designated for maintaining the dog squad.

Dog shelters have been established at the airport, which are equipped with fans and a dog bathtub.

Ministry of Home Affairs said earlier that the government will spend about MVR 1.2 million to establish the dog squad.
