Japan donates three million Ruifiya to a school in Fuvahmulah

Japan has donated an estimated three million Maldivian Rufiyaa (USD 201, 167) to Madharusathul Sheikh Mohammed Jamaludden School in Gnaviyani Fuvahmulah to build the school’s new building.

The Japanese Embassy said that the aid was given under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects of the Japanese Government (GGP).

The Embassy issued a press release saying that project aims to construct a suitable school building in realizing children’s right to receive education in a child friendly environment.. The school’s project has been developed by Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Madharusathul Sheikh Mohammed Jamaludden School in Fuvahmulah currently has more than 400 students with just 12 classrooms. The junior and the senior students are using those classrooms.

The new two story building with the Japanese aid is to have eight classrooms.

The aid agreement was signed by the Japanese ambassador for the Maldives and Sri Lanka, Nobuhito Hobo and the Pricipal of Madharusathu Sheikh Mohammed Jamaludden School, Aarifa Abdul Majeedh. The signing ceremony was held yesterday at the Japanese Embassy in Colombo.
