Official talks were held between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia and the two countries discussed to increase Saudi investors in Maldives.
The talks were held at the royal palace this evening. Leading the talks were the President of the Maldives, Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom and the King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The president’s office says historic friendship of the two countries and Saudi’s role in Maldivian development were discussed in today’s talks. Also among the topics of discussion were government’s efforts to strengthen the Maldivian economy and increasing the number of Saudi investors in Maldives. And working with the Saudi Arabia to strengthen the unity of Islam was also discussed.
King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud expressed the Saudi interest of establishing a Saudi Embassy in the Maldives to strengthen the ties between the two countries.
Leader of the Maldives Democratic Alliance (MDA), Ahmed Siyaam Mohamed, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr. Mohamed Shainee and the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem was also present at the meeting as part of the Maldivian emissary.
