MP for the Baarah constituents, Ibrahim Sujaau has paid the course fee of five teachers who teach in Utheemu of his constituents.
Vice-president of the Utheemu Island Council, Abdulla Rasheed told Sun Media that the course fees were paid to commemorate the teachers who have in the island school for years.
He said that the teachers have to leave the island once a month to complete the course.
Mr. Rasheed also said that aside from paying teacher’s course fees, MP Sujaau has been helping the people of the island as well. He said that donation of MVR 5, 000 was given to the Quran competition which was held last Monday.
Many changes have been brought to the education system with the new academic year. The most notable was the increase in salary for teachers with qualification allowance and other allowances.
Ministry of Education has said that the teachers without at least a diploma would be let go. So a courses are being held all over the country to improve the quality of the teachers.
