Galolhu-South MP Ahmed Mahloof has requested Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) to provide security.
Mahloof said in a letter addressed to Speaker of Parliament Abdulla Maseeh, that he had received threats from pro-government groups after he criticised the government and left ruling party Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
This includes threats of physical harm by groups on the streets, said Mahloof in the letter in which he requested for immediate security as guaranteed to MPs in the Constitution.
He added that the Speaker of Parliament should take responsibility for any danger he is exposed to while without security.
In addition to Mahloof, Kinbidhoo MP Abdulla Riyaz also made a request for MNDF security some weeks ago. It has not yet been arranged.
