Investigation under way on obstructions, damage for journalists in protests

Maldives Media Council (MMC) has established a standing committee to investigate the obstructions faced and damage suffered by journalists during protests.

MMC said in a statement that the committee will meet with journalists today to hold discussions in this regard.

Sources have told Sun Online that the committee has decided to meet with the VTV and Vaguthu journalists who were hit by sinkers (used in fishing) thrown by protesters in the demonstration on Friday night, as well as the Raajje TV journalist who was injured in the same protest.

The committee is chaired by MMC Member and Sun Online journalist Hussain Hassan, while its Deputy Chairperson is Local Senior Editor of Haveeru Online, Ahmed Hamdhoon.

Other members of the committee include MMC Members Miusam Abbas, Mohamed Rafeeg, and Hafsy Abdulla.
