Lawyers’ team of former president Mohamed Nasheed has requested to take Nasheed for the hearings on terrorism charges by keeping him in house arrest.
A letter signed by lawyer of President Nasheed, Uz Hassan Latheef and sent to Home Minister Umar Naseer on Tuesday read that president Nasheed is being given severe injuries by police officers when he is kept under supervision of police.
It was noted in the letter that they request to change Nasheed to house arrest to keep him safe from dangers that might be given to his body and soul.
Lawyers’ team, in the letter, has mentioned their concerns over taking Nasheed to places without the knowledge of his legal team and family. He has been taken to Medica for treatment on Tuesday afternoon.
Criminal Court has issued an order to keep Nasheed in custody until the completion of the trial on the terrorism charges pressed against him by the state following arrest of Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed against law.
