Maumoon Hameed, former Minister of Defence Mohamed Nazim’s lawyer, has said that Nazim was arrested on suspicion of possession of weapons and planning anti-government activities.
Maumoon told Sun Online, “In addition to the items found in his apartment following the search, [he was arrested also for] information received by Police Intelligence indicating that he was planning anti-government activities.”
Maumoon further said that the charges for possession of weapons and alleged involvement in anti-government activities are likely to be the same, and the fact that he was arrested after the case was sent to the Prosecutor General’s Office for prosecution, raises questions.
Nazim was arrested late last night (Monday night).
His apartment was raided by police on the night of 17 January 2015. Following their search, police confiscated a pistol, magazine, three bullets, and an improvised explosive device (IED).
