Foreign Minister Dhunya Maumoon said that Sri Lanka has always been the second for Maldivians.
Speaking in the ceremony held at Dharubaaruge on the occasion of 67th Anniversary of Sri Lanka’s Independence, Minister Dhunya said that while Sri Lanka is considered to be the second home for Maldivians, people of Sri Lanka treat Maldivians in a very friendly manner.
Minister Dunya in her speech, recalled the important historical facts that signified the longstanding and enduring ties of friendship between the two countries.
While speaking at the function, Minister Dunya highlighted on the active cooperation with Sri Lanka in the areas of higher education, youth and sports and health sectors.
“The Maldives is one of the largest source markets for Sri Lankan tourism; in 2014, more than eighty-six thousand Maldivian tourists visited Sri Lanka” said Minister Dhunya.
The ceremony held on Wednesday evening included a cultural performance of Sri Lanka.
