Court gives 15 days of detention for mother arrested over child

Vaavu Thinadhoo Magistrate Court has given 15 days of detention for Afiya Mohamed, the mother of three-year-old Ibthihaal Mohamed who died on Wednesday due to suspected abuse.

Afiya was arrested following a court order yesterday afternoon, and first taken to Vaavu Felidhoo today for the detention hearing. She was later taken to Thinadhoo as the magistrate at Felidhoo Court was out of the country.

Afiya has two children in addition to her eldest son Ibthihaal, who was found dead in his house with serious injuries on his body at around 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday.
