Criminal Court has issued an order to arrest the mother of the three-year-old boy found dead in Vaavu Rakeedhoo yesterday.
This follows a request by the police this morning for a court order to arrest Mohamed Ibthihaal’s mother, Afiya Ahmed, on suspicion of murder.
A team of police officers are presently in Rakeedhoo for the investigation.
President of Rakeedhoo Council Adam Saamee told Sun Online yesterday that Ibthihaal’s mother had been accused of abuse earlier as well, and given advice on multiple occasions by Ministry of Law and Gender and the police.
Prosecutor General Muhthaz Fahmy said that an investigation was under way to determine negligence on the part of any any government institution in relation to this case, and any person accused of negligence would be prosecuted.
Muhthaz said that it was ‘unacceptable’ that the child was left in the care of the mother after the authorities were informed of such severe abuse.
