Maldives Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) decides to sue Finance Minister Ahmed Inaz for withholding the money allocated for the corporation in the budget endorsed by the parliament.
A press release issued by MBC yesterday stated that the decision was made because the finance ministry has not solved the problems faced by the corporation due to unavailability of the budget, even after asking several times.
MBC Chairperson Umar Manik said that out of the Rf95 million allocated to MBC the Finance Ministry only provided the salaries of board members and no other funding was made available for other costs incurred by the corporation.
MBC says that the corporation was unable to complete lot of works that were planned and was unable to pay rent and bills and had been fined for it.
“The decision was made due to difficulties faced by the corporation as the budget is withheld by the Finance Ministry regardless of repeated requests. We even requested them to provide just the amount needed for the basic things," the press release states.
