Nasheed is using terrorism to gain western support: Adhaalath Party

Adhaalath Party has said that former President Mohamed Nasheed’s objective is to use ‘terrorism’ to gain the support of western countries.

In a counterstatement released against Nasheed’s claim that Adhaalath is an ‘extremist’ party, Adhaalath heavily criticised Nasheed’s statements and said that Nasheed often lies about his own country to international media by saying that Islamic extremism exists in the Maldives, and his purpose of doing this is to use terrorism to gain the support of western countries.

Adhaalath noted that Nasheed is revealing to the world his anti-Islamic agenda through his interviews with foreign media, and that Nasheed himself has confessed to this.

Adhaalath noted that in an interview with Washington Post on 19 April, Nasheed complained that his friends in the west abandoned him as soon as he was ousted, when his administration had worked hard on anti-Islamic programs while in power. Adhaalath asked all citizens to think carefully about these statements made by Nasheed.

“Nasheed labelled Adhaalath as extremist when we stood up against things like setting up worship idols on the street. Nasheed has confessed to Washington Post that he attempted to make the education curriculum less Islamic and more moderate, tried to renew ties with Israel after thirty years, and tried to protect women from being forced to wear burgas by extremists.”

Adhaalath also stated that no loyal citizen of the Maldives would support or assist campaigns to return a person, who has publicly confessed that he worked against Islam, as their leader.
