Education Ministry: All schools will start on Sunday

Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Shiham has said that all the schools would start teaching on 11 January 2015, Sunday.

In a press conference held by Ministry of Education on Saturday regarding the new academic year, Minister said that all schools have got the required teachers and resources for students and teaching would start in all the schools on Sunday.

Talking about the salary increment of teachers, Permanent Secretary of Education Ministry Dr. Muhsin said that all the teachers’ and leading teachers’ salary have been increased by 33 percent and Ministry aims to provide the increased salary to all the teachers by the end of this month.

With regard to the national new Curriculum to be implemented in 2015, Minister of State for Education Adam Shareef Umar said that academic New Year will begin in all the schools on Sunday with the biggest change so far in the system.

Shareef said that implementation of the new curriculum for the year 2015 was possible due to execution of the special road-map by National Institute of Education (NIE).

Details of the provisions available for higher studies were also given in the press conference held on Saturday. In that regard, Deputy Minister Azleen Ahmed said that all the work for establishment of an Islamic University in Maldives has been completed and the only task left is formulation of an Act on that.
