Chopart, the organiser of the Tourist Arrival Countdown and New Year show, has said that the show would be held as planned on the night of 31 December 2014 (tomorrow) despite the decision by Sean Paul to cancel his appearance.
Chopart said on Facebook that details of the show would be announced later.
Sean Paul announced his decision to cancel the show on Facebook, where he said that today, cyber threats must affect real life decisions. He said, “Unfortunately, the world has reached a point where cyber threats must affect real life decisions. With that said, due to safety concerns for my crew and the people of The Maldives attending the Tourist Arrival Countdown, it is with deep regret that I have come to the difficult decision to cancel my appearance.”
The cancellation came following a YouTube video issuing death threats to the artist. While the video contained the logo of Maldivian jihadist group in Syria Bilad Al Sham Media, implying that the video was posted by them, the group later denied any involvement in the making of the video.
Several arrangements have been made at the National Stadium in Male’ in preparation for the show tomorrow night.
