Madrid looks to continue record winning streak

MADRID (AP) — Fresh from setting a Spanish record with its 19th straight win, Real Madrid can take a step toward the overall record by beating Almeria on Friday.

Madrid beat Ludogorets Razgrad on Tuesday in the Champions League, bettering the 18-game winning streak set by Bracelona in 2005-06. The world record of 24 wins in all competitions was set by Brazilian club Curitiba in 2011.

"We are in a great moment: the players, the coaches and the club, which has always supported us," Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said. "We need to keep up this momentum."

Real Madrid leads the Spanish league, two points ahead of Barcelona. The Catalan team visits Getafe on Saturday.

ATLETICO AT HOME

Atletico Madrid has been unbeatable at home this year, and the defending champions will try to keep their record intact against Villarreal on Sunday.

From January to the end of last season, Atletico won six and drew four matches, including a 2-2 result against Real Madrid and a 0-0 draw with Barcelona.

This season, only Celta Vigo has managed to earn a point in a 2-2 draw.

STEADY SEVILLA

Fourth-place Sevilla will play Eibar on Sunday, four days after hosting Rijeka in a Europa League match.

"A draw at the Sanchez Pizjuan stadium won't do," Sevilla coach Unai Emery said. "To play in front of our fans in our stadium gives us the obligation to always go out to win."
