Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has on Monday said that many resorts would be developed in Maldives within the forthcoming three years and that facilities would be arranged to port cargo ships directly in those resorts in order to speed up the work.

Speaking in an event held to introduce the new airplane of Emirates and to increase the number of airlifts, Minister said that developing 15 new resorts within next three years is the target of the government. In that regard, Minister said that development of resorts in Maldives is an area that is prioritized by the Government.

“In order to speed up the work of 15 resorts that will be brought to market in a near future, duty will not be taken from goods brought to resorts and facilities would be established for the cargo ships to arrive resorts directly” said the Minister.

Apart from this, Minister said that government has started a vast project to develop airport in order to improve tourism in Maldives. He added that efforts will be made to develop hardware and software aiming to improve the services provided by businesses.

Cargo ships coming from other countries are ported only in Male’, Thilafushi and Addu ports at present. However, if the cargo ships can port directly in the resorts to be established, the work of resorts would be completed sooner.
