Alumni Association of Malé English School (MES) has started an event of blood donation today in Malé.
The event was commenced today at the Thalassemia Centre, and a large number of former students of MES participated in it and donated blood.
Speaking at the event, Prosecutor General and former MES student Muhtaaz Muhsin said that the event is a significant social activity conducted for the benefit of children with thalassemia. He also noted that conducting such activities is an individual responsibility on the shoulders of every member of the society.
“Like other countries of the world, here in the Maldives also the number of thalassemia children goes on increasing. I believe such events as we are carrying out today must be organized on a national level too”, said Muhtaaz.
Hussain Rasheed, State Minister of Health and former student of MES also spoke in the ceremony, and said that donating blood is “a great service in order to save a life”. He also said that the government was trying to enable low-cost born-marrow transplant surgery within the bounds of law.
Prosecutor General Muhtaaz donated blood in today’s event, in addition to Muhammad Ameet, MP for Maduvvary Constituency, and Ameen Ibrahim, former Minister of Transport.
MES Alumni Association has conducted similar events in the past as well.
