An information session has been held for shipping agents regarding online manifest submission service that would be introduced by Maldives Customs Service in a near future.
In the session held at Customs Head Office to shipping agents on Wednesday, information has been provided on the benefits of the service to be established at the beginning of next year.
According to Customs the shipping agents would have the option of submitting the cargo manifest online instead of the current manual system in the newly introducing service, hence when the system is fully implemented, this service would speed up the document processing time by a large extent.
“Introduction of the e-manifest service is an initiative to move towards more facilitated and hassle-free import/export environment and is intended to improve the quality of service provided by the organization” said Customs.
Customs said that this system would also enable quicker detection of high-risk cargo and also speed up the process of releasing low-risk cargo which would enable them to concentrate more on the high-risk goods.
According to Customs, the system is currently in its final testing phase and is expected to be introduced within the first quarter of 2015.
