A metal detector gate has been installed and begun to operate at prisoners’ area of Maafushi prison.
Thazmeel Abdulsamad, media official of Home Ministry said to Sun Online on Thursday that metal detector gate has begun to operate at Maafushi prison within the first week after the two escaped prisoners were brought to prison.
He said that nobody can enter the area where prisoners are kept without crossing the metal detector gate and the gate will detect any metallic item that is brought with the person who is entering the gate.
“Very recently two prisoners have escaped from jail after sowing the vents. Those vents were sowed by using metallic item. Metal detector gate was installed within the first week after the two escaped prisoners were brought to prison again” said Thazmeel.
Ongoing efforts were being made to strengthen the security of prison after the incident occurred recently. In that regard, Thazmeel said that ventilation of the prison have been evaluated and replacement have been done for those need to be replaced.
“In short, all the renovations are completed. And the condition of the prison has been improved when compared with previous condition” said Thazmeel.
Thazmeel said that the work of building 20 feet high concrete wall around the prison and establishment of security cameras were being done at a very fast speed, and that the work will be completed as stated in the announcement.
